SUMMARY:

 

Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in assigned sport(s). Contribute to education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics.  Enables students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.  

 

BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Model KISD core organizational beliefs and values; communicate openly and effectively within and across teams; and manage resources to effectively support District goals. 
  • Guide collaborative efforts to support effective delivery of services to the District, assigned areas, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Identify students who are at-risk and develop appropriate strategies to assist these students.
  • Monitor attendance of all students in assigned classes, contact parents, counselors, or other school officials regarding an intervention plan for students with serious attendance problems.
  • Utilize technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
  • Works with Head Coach on establishing performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis. Model performance criteria and physical movements required for successful student performance of sport.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Work with Head Coach to schedule competitions and plan season activities including practices, special events, and tournaments.
  • Coordinate with transportation department for travel arrangements to out-of-town events.
  • Supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned.
  • Maintain a highly competitive program
  • Ensure compliance with all UIL rules.
  • Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  • Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports both at-home and on out-of-town trips.
  • Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations regarding academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers; ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful.
  • Effectively implement the discipline-management procedures approved by the campus; interact with students in an equitable manner, including the fair application of rules.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
  • Assist in selection of equipment and instructional materials.
  • Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment and maintain a current inventory of all equipment and fixed assets within program.
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Establish and maintain professional communication with parents, students, and District personnel. 
  • Continually learn and build personal and professional capacity.
  • Maintain a supportive, positive, courteous, respectful and professional attitude regarding all aspects of the job responsibilities, administration, and District/campus goals.
  • Positively represent Keller ISD and the District administration at public venues and/or 
  • activities; maintain a professional appearance, manner and work habit.
  • Develop and implement systems to enhance the positive work environment as aligned with Core Documents.
  • Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compile, maintain, file, and secure all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
  • Pursue professional development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that professional development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
  • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assign and oversee completion of the work of student athletic assistants

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of positive and effective delivery of coaching techniques
  • Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
  • Ability to be patient, flexible, and versatile
  • Basic technology competencies

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate in teaching area assigned
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate in English as a Second Language (preferred and will be required for contract renewal)
  • Current First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certificate
  • Commercial Drivers License (CDL) preferred and will be required for contract renewal

Experience:  

  • Coaching experience preferred
  • Ability to develop, implement and maintain a highly competitive program
  • Successful classroom teaching experience

MENTAL/PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing
  • Frequent moving of small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other athletic/classroom equipment
  • Occasional prolonged and irregular hours
